2 Days/ 1 Night Lewa Downs Flying Safari From Nairobi takes you to Lewa Downs, some 65 kilometers north of Nanyuki in an area known as Laikipia, is a 16,000 hectare private ranch with a mixture of cattle and wildlife sharing the land.

This unique sanctuary provides a safe haven and habitat for species threatened by the growing human population in surrounding areas. For example, 6% of Kenya’s population of endangered Black Rhinoceros and 20% of the world’s population of the rare Grevy’s Zebra are found within its boundaries.

It also houses a research centre for various conservation related wildlife programmes as well as a limited number of safari camps and small lodges.

Lewa Downs is the venue in June each year for the Lewa Downs Marathon and fun runs where sponsored runners can participate alongside some of Kenya’s greatest international athletes to raise money for both the wildlife research projects and educational and health programmes for the local population.

Your accommodation will be at the Lewa Safari Camp – a stunning location within Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, with outstanding game viewing and spectacular views to Mt. Kenya to the south and arid lowlands to the north.

The camp is based within the private 65,000 acre wildlife conservancy of the Lewa Wilderness Trust. The conservancy is home to about 10% of Kenya’s black rhino population, and the single largest population of Grevy’s zebra in the world.

Lewa re-invests all the profits generated from tourism (including profits from Lewa Safari Camp) into its core programmes. When you visit Lewa, you will help thousands of people from different backgrounds and cultures to improve their lives at the same time as ensuring Africa’s wildlife has a stable home.

Accommodation

Lewa Safari tented camp offers spectacular scenery and game viewing. It consists of 12 luxurious tents that are situated on raised platforms under thatched roofs.

Each tent is fitted with electric lighting, large double bed and en-suite bathroom, including hot and cold running water and flush toilets.

The safari camp, overlooking a floodlit waterhole, has a main lounge constructed of cederwood which houses the dining room, lounge and bar where guests can enjoy the view and good company and discuss the day’s safari in comfort.
